First of all, the heritage that exist from the notion of patience, of dwelling in the moonlight, continues -- which is simply experiencing notion of delight. This drastic wind come along and black clouds come through. At that point the notion is wild horse. That at level of wild horse that you can only relate with exertion. That doesn't necessarily mean to say that you have to punish the horse, or for that matter that point you supposed to feed the horse with too much encouragement either. And certain point you don't want to work with anything at all. And it becomes kind of split mentality, that there is love and hate continuity takes place always. At one point you are utterly resentful, one point you are utterly devoted. And all those schizophrenia takes place at that particular level and where that horse of jealousy could be controlled by the paramita of exertion. In this case exertion is simplifying the whole process, completely, that you are neither analyzing nor everything is blind faith, but simply sit and do it, practice and do it. That is exertion. Just keep doing, keep plowing, keep continue. Beginner's level of sitting practice of meditation becomes very problematic, and almost as in the level of being fake, that you are still beating the dead horse in some sense, that you lost your impetus: \"But how can I keep on sitting, keep on practicing at all?\" At that level the continual process of exertion brings us into level of a real process. And sometime the analogy goes of paramita of meditation is like tortoise walk, riding on the tortoise. Takes one step, another step, another step, and one step, but each step is very small step, but simply dignified step, real step takes place. Then you give some signal, tickle on their back, [laughter] and tortoise will begin to stand up. And it begin to make its first move, and second move with four legs, and hind legs, and everything, and finally you ride on the tortoise very slowly, surely, completely. Those challenges become natural challenges, naturally. At the same time those challenges also can give some sense of speed, and notion of frivolity, and notion of ambition at the same time. And when the bodhisattvas get this particular practice of the fifth paramita of meditation, at that level that there is some kind of speedometer. Where that if you are going too fast, if you're going too slow, you have to keep up with the general patterns of the bodhisattva's ideal, which goes with original plan of transplantation of bodhichitta in your heart that goes with that. Or is it neither distinct nor all at once?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Still the same thing, still the same thing. As well as what is known as the \"vajra-like samadhi\", \"vajri samadhi\" takes place. Nothing changes very much in the mahayana level. Still the same thing. There's no self-indulgency -- bodhisattva is always on the razor's edge.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER6: What about that metaphor about Eve being able to eat the poison fruit because he knows the antidote?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Don't have a great expectations about that.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER6: [Laughs; laughter] About what? The antidote or--\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: There is no such thing as self-snug bodhisattva.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER6: As-- pardon me?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Bodhisattvas, there is no such thing as self-*snug* bodhisattva. Bodhisattva is always on their radars. And if you make-- made a slip, you break your vertebrae, your neck. It's as outrageous as that. Sometimes you might cause stop your heart beating.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER6: Without knowledge of the antidote? [Laughter]\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Even if you have knowledge of antidote, if you fake it, you don't get away with anything. You see, you have to be very careful when you ask such questions, that nothing can be cheated. That we discussed the other day, that whether ego can be outsmarted by prajna, and it is possible that such discipline is preven-- presented to us, which is designed to be outsmart ego. And it actually works. And you can't cheat anyway. Absolutely no choice. And if you're trying to do so, it's very painful and you end up in very bad shape. [Laughter]\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER6: Is there a sense of development betwee-- from, what's the first one, devotion, continuity, and joy?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Well devotion seem to be, it's like the devotion -- if you could speak in purely in the mahayana level at this point, maybe you ask at the vajrayana level, but nevertheless -- is simply idea of that having bodhichitta is transplanted in your heart, the sense of delightness, which make very, very fine. That finally the life is, you know, beautiful and delightful. That you are something, you actually can walk on the path, you have potentialities and everything. And then beyond that, it's in sense of devotion, that's commitment, a sense of devotion takes after that, and sense of the generosity and everything becomes no hassle, that it become natural process. [Laughter; laughs] Well, you see the idea of \"that way, from that point of view\" is maybe applicable on that particular spot, on that particular view. Like if you are about to run across the red light, that particular point of view is better not do so. But that doesn't mean to say that we going get our journey faster particularly, on the other hand. [Laughter; laughs] So it's a conditional situation. [Laughs]\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER7: That's what I thought. [Laughter] I was just-- but I was checking. One is you say, \"that seems to be the main point.\" And I've heard you say that about probably four or five hundred different subjects. [Laughter]\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: That particular what? What did I say?\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER7: You said, \"That seems to be the main point.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: That seem to be the point, yeah, sure.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER7: The *main* point. And therefore you might trying to go along with the confused people by saying \"this main point it seems to be.\" And just go along with your confusion, a little bit there.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER7: In my case, it's unavoidable. [Laughter] And then tonight you used the term \"higher level.\" And I watched a tape that you did with Ram Dass where he was passionately, or I mean compassionately, raked over the coals for using the term \"levels.\" But you, on the other hand, use that term quite a bit -- there's \"this level\" and \"that level\" and so on and so forth. So, you know, how does that add? [Laughter]\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Well, obviously not Ram Dass-ian style. Level we are talking about here, even higher level is being earth, being worm, being little plant, or could be being sky and the cosmos. And I thin-- I don't think I can make that general statement at that particular level. It has lot of context and also relate with the audience at the same time. Audience have to studying the hinayana completely, which would be different level and the mahayana will be different level, and the vajrayana level will be different kind of level altogether. So that's conditional. Yeah, rather than wild horse, there the magic horse, the magic horse, or the crazy horse. At that point, the notion of horse is something that flowing, continuously happening in its own speed. Horse at this point is same analogy as sportscar, or rocket, that go along with the wind. More like sportscar than rocket, actually. Jet airline, airplane that goes along with the rhythm of the wind. Whether you are manufacturing-- manifesting properly coordination with reality, that's depends on environment. That's it. If you are crazy, you are-- that definitely means potential suicide. If you're wild, that means much more *worse* -- you don't even care for anything else beyond you, and you might make damage to other-- somebody other-- somebody else. If you just ordinary horse who speed along, that seem to be very lovable; everybody does that in any case. But taming the horse is seem to be notion of exertion, dead horse. All of them are dead horse, horse dreaming, horse nightmare, be put back in human level so human beings can practice the notion of exertion.\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you, I think that's it.
