That early stages of hinayana discipline, prajna plays important part in more in the form of intellectual, conceptualized notion such as like the notion of the three marks of existence and the twelve nidana concept. And everything becomes a natural process, but at the same time somewhat intellectual level. And a sense of exertion takes place much more higher priority there, a sense of delight in your discipline and you have no longer tired of the situation at the same time at all. That usually when we talk about \"revelation\" we are talking about see you are startled and you're so shocked, therefore you have to reveal to your certain particular experience. In this case it not revelation as a startled situation, but also revelation come along, revelation of prajna comes through because of some sense of sustaining quality which built by the generosity and all the rest of the paramitas. And therefore the publicness which brings a sense of sharpness in the heart of the matter, rather than in the fringe. If you do have a personal privacy and private life, then we have sharp edges and basic boundaries. And therefore there is no sharp corners, whereas if you have a very blunt dagger, razor, you could see where the sharp edge begin to end, where the begin cutting process begin to take place. And therefore the prajna razor, or the sharp sword is *so* sharp, it first of all mingles with the situation, and when the prajna begin to cut through, *cut you*, you don't feel it, because so sharp it mingles so deceptive, that you don't feel anything is happening. And then it begin to go through so precisely and it begin take advantage of that woolly edge because of it's sort of transparent and it begin to cut through completely. So that's the idea of there is some kind of numbness which does not belong to \"this\" or to \"that.\" In the vajrayana discipline we talk about \"one flavor,\" which we discuss later on, maybe we could discuss that at the ITS. But that seem to be the general idea of prajna, is very deceptive in the surroundings, but it's so powerfully fortified and that that very transparent edge does not just blend itself or dissolve itself into the object that it's cutting, but it actually begin make its own body, as the razor edge begin to become nonexistence, utterly nonexistence and transparent and begin to make its body and its shape and begin to be cut through. It seem to be very harmless and transparent at the same time at the beginning, and then it begin to grow into its own powerfulness of its cutting qualities, vajra sharp quality-ness begin to develop, which is the wisdom begin to happen. That is to say that the transparency tells us that the notion of dogma does not apply anymore. At the beginning when you mingle with one's student, or one's own mind, you almost fake the whole thing. And the student would feel that the teacher is also sharing the mutual deceptions at the beginning, it's so transparent, so sharp, and doesn't actually see it, you don't feel hurtful or painful at all. The student feel delightful, \"Now we're getting into something. Wow! And we-- actually I can fake my things to my teacher, and teacher is actually going along with my deceptions because it's so invisible, so utterly invisible, a remarkable precision, utterly, absolutely at all.\" And when [laughing] that begin to happen, then students begin to commit themselves, begin to buy the trip so to speak. [Laughter] As students begin to go more and more, and push and more and more, then you begin to find that you have made big slot, [laughter] big slice in yourself by going along with that, mutual deceptions are after all no longer mutual deceptions at all. That the ego's trips outsmarted. It not as good as the vajra of the vajrayana discipline, but it's closest to that-- of that kind of so thin, invisible hairline situation, and it becomes slowly, gradually, very faintly, and finally it become big. And big thinking is beginning to develop, that your wound has been opened up, where that the bodhichitta can be transplanted in your heart, takes place. And usually always the second thought, which we might call first thought, but that's the just purely impulse level. In order to have impulse, you have to have several generations of \"that\" and \"this\" and then that finally \"that\" is happening all the time. There's no such thing as first impulse, first thought, in the first impulse level, particularly at all. And it's very clumsy. Something goes \"ding\" and then you sort of edit that. Having edited that already, then we regard it as a first thought, best thought, in the ego level. And it's-- for sure it's quite fresh at that point, but somehow not quite all that fresh. Relative bodhichitta is you're about to go, absolute bodhichitta is you are going, actually you are going, you are doing it.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: So it's not so much the difference between wisdom in method?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Wisdom and what?\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: And method. I thought that relative related more to compassion.\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Can you say that again?\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: I thought that relative bodhichitta was mostly relating to compassion, in that--\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Relative bodhichitta is preparation, but preparation could be also journey at the same time. You may be doing it, but you are not really quite doing it, you are not really actually become the service of all sentient beings yet. You are just rehearsing, you are in the school of Red Cross, the training ground. But actual bodhichitta absolute level is you actually being sent out to Africa or India, you know. You are actually acting as the agent of the Red Cross.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: So like the pre-prajna--\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Peace Corps. [Laughs; laughter]\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: So the pre-prajna level of--\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: I beg your pardon?\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: Pre-prajna, before prajna paramita.\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Prajna?\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: It's relative?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Well you can't have prajna paramita at all, actually speaking, you can't *have* it, unless you develop it. In other word, we can only have-- on the other hand we could say we could have the notion of abortion, but you can't have anti-abortion. If you want to suddenly want to have a kid, nobody can put kid in your stomach. You see, whole thing how it goes? And that's same kind of analogy, that everything have to grow inside you rather than that you suddenly have it -- that the notion of growth is important.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe prajna paramita begins when you have the first paramita, where you begin to develop sharp, highly sharp and precise notion of jnana -- \"jna\" which is then becomes \"pra-jna\", which means further jna. There's Tibetan word \"ye-she\" -- \"shepa\" is \"intelligence\" and \"wakefulness\", but you have \"ye-she\" which makes greater \"she\" -- \"shepa\" which make \"yeshe.\" And the same thing applies to \"sherap\" -- \"she-rap\" means \"best of the shepa.\" So that begin to happen very slowly.\r\n\r\n\r\nSPEAKER4: Sherap is sort of a mediator between shepa and yeshe?\r\n\r\n\r\nTRUNGPA RINPOCHE: Yeah, but at the beginning when we talk about prajna, we are relate with the sherap, simply, the best of the shepa. And then we begin to have \"ye-she,\" which means you've gone long beyond shepa, or sherap even. It's very simple actually. And there don't seem to be any communication, but your tongue begin to feel your taste of your own tongue's blood. It's a kiss of death of some kind.
