Series: Public Seminar: Line of the Trungpas (7 talks, 1975, Karme Choling)

A fascinating series in which Trungpa Rinpoche recounts history of the Trungpa Tulku lineage, beginning in 14th century, of which he is 11th incarnation. Covers origins of Surmang monasteries and monastic system, evolved out of traveling "encampments" in Eastern Tibet; instrumental in drawing thousands to dharma. Historic focus of Surmang Kagyu as practice, scholarship, devotion, simplicity. Characterized as "the mishap lineage," as being in direct contact with reality makes any obstacle workable. Makes connections between historic experiences of Trungpas and our own contemporary practice situations, that we can apply same principles and approaches. Strong connection between Karmapas and Trungpa lineage, and importance of sangha. Basis of the book The Mishap Lineage: Transforming Confusion Into Wisdom (Shambhala Publications, 2009).
