Series: Public Seminar: Life and Teachings of Marpa I (4 talks, 1973, Karme Choling, Audio and Video)

An engaging series that takes the life and example of Marpa as a lens for exploring how the teachings and sanity are passed down in Kagyu lineage. Specifically, the unique teacher-student relationship, commitment to meditation practice, and taking one's own intelligence as a guideline. Examples from Marpa's life: as an ordinary householder but brilliant translator; creator of great yogis in his students; someone who had complete understanding of mahamudra, ultimate practice of Kagyu lineage. Focus is on discovering who one is through meditation, viewing confusion as the first step toward sanity, and, in the last talk, gives a thorough and accessible explanation of what mahamudra is.
