Series: Public Seminar: Mandala of the Five Buddha Families I (4 talks, 1971, Boston, Audio)

A detailed seminar that introduces the principles of the five buddha families, by explaining their qualities and functions within the framework of the three kayas, or "bodies" -- the three manifestations of buddhas that we all also have.  "Dharmakaya" is space that accommodates everything; sambhogakaya is communicative energy that connects mind and body; nirmanakaya is physical, embodied aspect of wisdom, such as the living teacher. The principles and different energies of the five buddha families -- buddha, vajra, padma, ratna, karma -- explained in detail, emphasizing how each one transforms a specific style of confusion into a specific style of wisdom. An excellent introduction to these central teachings of the vajrayana.
