Series: University of Colorado Spring 1974 (9 talks, 1974, Boulder, Audio)

The fourth and final year that Trungpa Rinpoche taught a course at the University of Colorado. A sweeping introduction to the Tibetan Buddhist path, blending historical context, foundational teachings, and experiential approaches. Topics span all three yanas (vehicles), including the four noble truths, the three marks of existence, ego and the skandhas (aggregates), karma and rebirth, working with sutras (texts attributed to the Buddha), the bodhisattva path, bodhicitta (awakened heart), buddha nature, nirvana, and tantric practice. Clarifies common misconceptions about nirvana, emphasizes meditation as central to working with confusion, and highlights Buddhism’s nontheistic, practice-oriented approaches. Culminates in teachings on innate enlightened potential, tantric mysticism, and the symbolism of mandala. Unique opportunity to hear Trungpa Rinpoche infusing scholarly discourse with his hallmark experiential teaching style.
