BOOK PLAYLIST: The Path is the Goal

As a pioneer in bringing the Buddhist teachings to the West, Chögyam Trungpa placed enormous emphasis on meditation practice as the essential starting point and foundation of the entire path. He stressed the importance of both mindfulness meditation (shamatha), leading to the inclusion of awareness (vipashyana) in one’s practice. Edited by Sherab Cohn, THE PATH IS THE GOAL is split into two parts. Part One of the book is based on the seminar "Mindfulness and Awareness" taught in New York City in 1974. This seminar traces the practitioner’s path from the foundation of mindfulness and sitting practice, discovering ourselves through simplicity, to the continuity of awareness in working with our confusion and expectations. Part Two is based on the seminar "Vipashyana Insight Meditation," which he gave six months later at the Vermont retreat center Tail of the Tiger (now Karmê Chöling). In these powerful talks, he introduces the heart of vipashyana practice, including how it relates to shamatha practice.
